What has happened so far
After an intensive process and with contributions from many people and organisations, the (alternating) team of Gent2030 developed and summarized the concept for the European Capital of Culture candidacy in a first bid book. This will be officially submitted at the beginning of September. After this conceptual phase, it is time for a new step: learning by doing – and concretely realizing the Gent2030 program, “tuupetegoare.

Toopen are learning environments where we work cross-sectorally on local, regional, and international issues, ultimately leading to the Gent2030 program.
A look into the future
In the fall, we want to bring together a diverse group of supporters to brainstorm with the Gent2030 team about the next steps in our candidacy. This group, envisioned as an advisory and ambassador group, will nourish the further process through specific expertise, valuable networks, and fresh perspectives.
Who we are looking for…
…engaged participants with diverse expertise and networks in areas such as:
- Artistic (including amateur arts), cultural, and heritage sectors
- Creative and event sectors
- Broad social-cultural sector and civil society
- Education sector
- Broad care sector
- Technology/economic, industrial, and agricultural sectors
- Other specific expertise, such as urban development, accessibility, history, community work, ecology, migration, etc.
Mandate and assignment
The supporters group will meet once a month from October ’24 to June ’25 to:
- Inspire and advise the Ghent2030 team at the start of various toopen
- Link networks, locally, nationally, and internationally, to initiate the toopen
- Help safeguard the mission and approach of Ghent2030What we expect
- Enthusiasm: willingness to strengthen and enrich Ghent2030 together and with equality
- Presence: attend monthly meeting (live or hybrid) as much as possible
- Active engagement: using expertise and personal networks to advance the project
- Advocacy: embracing and promoting the mission, artistic narrative, 12 values, andlearning principles of Ghent2030
What we offer

- Volunteer compensation: a fee per meeting for those who do not participate in this role as part of a paid job
What if…
What if Ghent does not make the shortlist (which we find hard to imagine) in October 2024? We still want to think with this group about how we can inject the collected good ideas and energy into the city, region, and Europe in the future.

Deadline for applications and selection criteria:
● We collect all applications by September 9, 2024, and will then review all submissions.
● Applications will be screened based on motivation and the expertise and network they can contribute to the mission and project of Ghent2030.
● We will form a diverse supporters group based on a mix of the specific expertise and networks we seek, taking a balance of gender, age, and origin into account.
If there are more than 30 candidates, we will select based on a mix of the needed expertise, taking a balance of gender, age, and origin into account.The first meeting will take place in the fall.
